Educational Tour
EDUCATIONAL TOUR
ELSIE GATCHES VILLAGE
Welcome to Elsie Gatches Village :) This was the first time to be in this place. We are so excited to gain new experiences and learn something new again especially in the field of Psychology
Orientation with Maam Nelo as well as with Sir Perez. We have learned so many facts and events about this village of challenged people and how the personnel treat and take a good care to them
Sir Aaron explaining and discussing about the place (cottage) wherein the client stays here depending on the classification of their disorder
Beautiful Cottage for the clients . When we went to this place, the clients are so happy because we can see the smile in their faces. They learn and improve their skills more.
Beautiful Cottage for the clients too :) Clients are enjoying and happy when they saw us. Some of them looks confused but in the end, we are happy to be with them
After the tour:) picture taking with Sir Aaron:) We take our time to be with him because he is a great person and the one that we idolize for being a good psychologist
The 3rd year Psychology Students together with our professors conducted an Educational Tour last March 7 in Elsie Gatches Villages at Alabang, Muntinlupa City and in Sanctuary Center at Mandaluyong City.
We are divided into two groups. As being part of the group 2 (bus 2), we went first in Elsie Gatches Village. When we arrived at the site, there was an in-charged personnel who oriented us about the history, background, personnel and about the clients. We have learned that Elsie Gatches Village is the National Center for Mentally Challenged Persons. Under the Department of Social Welfare and Development - National Capital Region. It is the only government center for the mentally challenged persons. After the orientation, Sir Aaron, the only psychologist in the center, was the one who introduced and explained each cottages and wards of the clients. We also learned that the clients are classified into four types: the profound, severe, lower trainable and upper trainable.
As we observe the clients in each wards and cottages, i felt that there are many people who needs a lot of care and proper treatment. I think that the government doesn't paid too much attention on these people but still, it's nice to see and i felt that there are also many people who are lucky enough and be thankful for what they have. I'm glad to see that these challenged people are also learning the basic needs up to the difficult activities that helps the personnel too. Before we ended up the tour in Elsie Gatches, we went to their Productivity Workshop wherein we saw the beautiful hand crafts made by the clients. I was amazed when I saw one of the client who is classified as upper trainable, his output was so beautiful and all of us are happy to see it.
After the tour in Elsie Gatches Villages, we take a rest and have our lunch in the festival mall. After that, we went to our second place which is the Sanctuary Center. Actually, I'm excited to see again the clients in the site because it was not our first time to meet them because last december, we conduct an outreach program. As we arrived in the place, Ms. Luz orient us about the history, backgrounds, personnel and facilities in the center. Then, we are glad to know that the clients prepared some presentation for us to see their talents and abilities such as dancing and singing.
After their performance, we now conduct our own flow of program and our games. As one of the in-charged in the giving of prizes, I make sure that all of them will be given. It ended up into a successful and a wonderful experience to us a future psychologist. :)

Outreach Program for Sanctuary Center
Our customized tarpaulin for this outreach program was prepared by our section. Thanks a lot to one of my friend/classmate for making this layout :)
"Beautiful colors gives happiness to everyone"
This is our block section. We did a great job and I'm proud to everyone who took a lot of efforts, that's why all of us are happy and it was successful
We had an orientation first regarding to the things that we should and must do. To be RESPONSIBLE is important aspect in order for this activity to be a successful one
Even though we look tired and haggard, by just seeing our lovely clients smiling and enjoying, our strengths are regained instantly and we are happy too
This is my classmate, the one who organized in the food committee. I think she's great and I respect her for all the effort and she helped me a lot
The Outreach program last December 2011 was held in Rainforest Park. By knowing the plan and preparation of this activity, it took a lot of effort for us and as I had observed, because of this event, I saw the cooperation and participation of everyone. Also, with regards to this activity, it's our first ever exposure in a setting wherein we will handle and take care of our clients. Actually, I'm not scared or nervous in meeting them, instead, I'm so excited because together with my fellow psychology classmates, we want to see their smile on their faces and make them happy even for just a short time by sharing what we have. I noticed that even for just a small things that we have done, the amount of happiness that they had means a lot. As a psychology student, we are the one who must understand them aside from their families. By sharing my own thoughts and feelings to them, I'am thankful that they had show me that Life is Worth for living and striving as we make our own way towards our goals.
